Plus, it seems like he could always go back to that as well (prof's at music schools often leave and return for music reasons). Not like Mike doesn't have OTHER gigs as well, the guy prob could pick up any number of high end gigs at whim.

DT has a cult like following, I'd say that's about as stable a "gig" as could exist. Those guys will never have to get day jobs.

DT would only add another notch on MM's belt in terms of real -world -education- legitimacy... can you imagine Berklee seeing dollar signs in their lil' brochures should MM would wanna come back after a long stint w/ DT?

They just chose Mike so they wouldn't have to remember another name.

Well, no surprise ending there.

All in all, a great and well done reality/contest/documentary show. And, showed the band members to be well adjusted, sincere and down to earth guys. All around good stuff. I wonder if non drummers liked these as much as we?

Kudos to Mike Mangini. He certainly came across as the one that wanted it the most. That usually matters as much as anything. For everything.

Lol indeed he has. deseipel got it pretty much spot on I think with regards to the sort of deal Mike is getting. He's probably been made an official member of the band as opposed to being taken on as a hired gun so some proportion of tours, album sales, royalties, merch etc.... Wonder how much MP still gets...obv still royalties from old cds he was on and anything he participated in. But I wonder about merchandise etc in the future.

I don't think Mangini will be entitled to royalties from all of Portnoy's hard work over the last 20 years. Portnoy will be getting those I'm sure. But thats just my guess. I haven't a clue how that stuff really works.
