Thanks for that very clear explanation Mike...from an old drummer's perspective, after hearing Steve and all the other gifted guys on here playing the blushda and marveling at their skill, I finally get it...

I have been following Mike's vids since he started. I love it when they pop up on my YouTube page.

I am extremely pleased/impressed to see what he has done from a business and entrepreneurial standpoint...nice work!

Mike has cultivated his business for free(?) on YouTube with relativley no monetary risk and turned it into a thriving business. This is a great example of being "self-made".

But, along with being an accomplished drummer who can teach... it also took a great personality that connects with others. Not everybody can do this.

Congratulations on taking advantage of your passion in such a prosperous manner, Mike!

A venture like this has to be so rewarding on so many levels...a great study for a university business course.

Nice video, but the flam is not exactly clarified in how you are playing it. In the beginning, you are playing flat flams. Then you switch into a left handed flam. Some kids might end up playing a right flam or flat, when ergonomically, the left flam is best. Also, when orchestrating the right hand on the ride, that flam is flat as well. Playing the flam more open sounds more funky to me between the snare and toms than tight or closed.
I think for the sake of the kids, you need to show the difference of how flams are played. In addition, the blushda when sped up, the three beat figure changes into a four beat figure in the space of three beats. The interpretation of the blushda changes with tempo.

You are joking right? I think you missed the whole point of my video. The last thing on earth I want is for the "kids" to play it the way I played it. I already did it and so did a million other drummers. My lack of telling them exactly what to do is so that they can grow this thing into something new.

It's 10 minutes long, and you could have easily taken the time to mention how you are flamming to make the video more informative. Play a right flam between the snare and floor and it sounds horrible (to me), but a left flam sounds nice. I'm just saying that the video would be more informative if the flam was actually mentioned in regards to what kind it is. They all make a difference in how the overused lick sounds.

Unfortunately you guys have a mole planted by me a very long time ago. So Jim, can you send me the link to the video where you demonstrate to the kids the one and only way to play The Blushda? I assume you wouldn't critique what I have done unless you had done something better yourself right? right?
