Holdsworth = "Secrets" = The Bibble.

But I love his whole work, it's not even about the drumming, but yeah, it's always better to have a good drummer, specialy when he's a GREAT musician.

Great record, yes, but I.O.U. is not only Holdsworth's best record, but the BEST RECORD EVER RECORDED BY ANYONE!

I love 'Secrets' but what Paul said is a fact!! I listen to 'I.O.U.' at least three times a week.

I think Gary fits Allan better than both Bruner and Wackerman. I also loved Novak with Allan.
Since I have yet to hear Allan with Virgil I can only look forward to this with anticipation

i agree for the most part. not only are most of the bombastic fills out of context, he starts to lose the pocket. just seems like he can't wait for the next moment to show off his chops and treats every little space like it's a drum solo. i wish he would give it some breathing room. he totally has the capability to play less, play tastefully, but chooses not to. that's where i think he still needs to mature. the guy has enough chops to last 2 lifetimes. let the audience crave it rather than getting us full in the first 30 secs. jj does not look too excited about it either.

If you don't like Bruner's approach, that's fine. Every one has their own preferences. But while I'm not crazy about his playing, I don't know about calling it less "tasteful". It's just a matter of different taste.

Some people speak faster. Some guitarists play more notes. Some drummers play more notes. Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean it's not tasteful. Some people think faster. I'm sure that Bruner's mind is thinking so fast that these fills don't seem nearly as nuclear as they do to me.

I too prefer bigger notes and more space, with the odd flurry here and there. But that's me.

The point of improvised music is to listen to each other.

You can't listen if you aren't listening.
