the control of it that is the issue.

Which Pearl pedal do you have?
Is it the Eliminator or the Power-
Shifter? What about direct-drive?
How do you feel about it? Have
you tried it? Do you prefer it?

Is your rim wooden? Give me
some more to go on and we'll
put a picture together of what
might be up your alley. Oh
and tell me what kind of music
you will be playing.

Today, I will be at Trick, with
Mike Dorfman talking pedals
and other crazy things. Of all
my pedals, I end up using the
high-end Trick but I like some
other pedals, too, like Bob's
Boa and even Darryl's Axis-A.

Hey Pete... I´m using an old strap Pearl pedal... Not sure the model, I guess is the pedal from some old Exports or Sessions?
Never tried the direct drive, but I´m open to something new... Rim is indeed wood and I´m looking for a pedal to cover from bop to rock (backbeat oriented music most of the time); I´ll be switching between my 22" and 18", so I´m gonna be messing quite a bit with it...

How was your visit to Trick? Do you have any novel ideas that wanna develop?

Well, I really think you should
experience direct-drive before
you choose a pedal. There is
nothing like the immediate
response of a pedal with it,
in my opinion.

If you have around $200 to
spend and you want a pedal
that can do almost anything,
you should consider these
high-end Tricks or Demons.
Even the Boa is a great pedal,
as for adjust-ability.







There is a crazy pedal by a company
called Drumnetics. I am actually in
a dialogue with him (Mike Van Dyck)
about the design and tweaking it.
It uses a magnet for resistance.
I have another prototype that he
has just modified for me, as for
a certain specification and I must
say that I really like the change
but it is not ready, yet. I mean
the modified one but will be,
soon. It will be priced around
there, too. When it is done, I
will do a review on it.



You want to try different designs.
Go to the shop and try everything,
there. Tell me what they have. For
cheap, get an Eliminator, with all
the cams.



For the big bucks: it is Trick, Demon
or Boa. My view. The Trick and Boa
are the most versatile designs.

The new Mapex Falcon (chain) is just
not adjustable enough - cam-wise, in
my opinion (too round).



The Direct-Drive version looks better
but you have to play it. I have not, yet.



You need to try cams with edge, even
if to just know you do not like them.
I love, love, love them.

There are other factors, too but I
need to know they will matter to you.

PS: Mike Dorfman and I spent most
of the day, together and he gave a
tour of the place. He is a great guy
and very intelligent. The drums are
signature. I could not believe the
titanium shells. I have to have a
set and am seriously thinking about
having him put together a kit for me.
These shells resonate like bells. A
whole other story.

PSS: The last couple of years, as
far as drums go, I have devoted
lots of time to riding and have been
playing traditional, leading with it
and the left-hand, on the left and
then right, when on the right.

My crazy economic work has been
very, very consuming. The stakes
are very high everywhere. This is
a new world in which we live.
