Even seeing it written down and having it explained, it's still hard to get my head around and would take me months to play correctly.

Vinnie interviewed his greatest teacher. Chafee invited Vinnie to check out, learn and play a piece of music by someone called Ben Johnston that he says is the hardest rhythmic piece ever written. Quite something to say considering how difficult the black page is.
