great playing & song choice, Gavin, and you look as though you were really enjoying it
+1 on your drum sound...Tony Royster's drums sound so flat and toneless....

People whistle the song -they don't whistle your drum part - Ringo Starr

Way to nail it, Gavin! That was really fun to watch -- in high-def!
“Let's try some of my songs.” Dave Grohl, top sign drummer will be fired.
Re: Letterman drum solo week II
That was great Gavin, I really enjoyed the composition and the drum sound, fantastic! you're ready to handle any pressure it seems
Re: Letterman drum solo week II
Yep THIS is what I was hoping / asking for: musicality and creativity in 90 seconds (and great sounding drums as a dessert) .....

About Tony Royster performance...
His style is not my favourite, but forget that you own/play drums...His performance is really good, pure tv show, full of entertainment for the millions of TV viewers.
Even Letterman seems really excited about Tony at the end of the tune.

Gavin, CONGRATULATIONS about everything aspect of your performance...Test passed: with a 10.
And a 10 for Letterman.
And a 10 for Youtube.

Oh yeah!
Two non-drummy highlights:
- Gavin looking at the band. And smiling.
- The band counting for all they're worth.

Ed Sullivan theater will never be the same! Great job, Gavin!! Could you comment on how you were selected for the show? I thought it was very cool that you were initially advertised as the drummer for Iggy Pop, Lisa Stansfield, and King Crimson but Dave introduces you as the drummer for PT and holds up yours and Ric's 'Circles' CD! I love it!

Oh Gavin, it was just perfect, you did show us one time again that you're way more than just another great drummer, you're a very clever guy, so a very clever musician, huge thanks mate.Gavin Harrison wrote:OK Guys - I've done it. For better or worse it's done. That is a really high pressure situation - (I just saw Tony Royster in the hotel and he felt the same) and for me being someone who NEVER plays solos - it was a real challenge too.
I tried to get the mix guy to put some reverb on the drums - but there's only so much meddling you can do.
I'm too tired to stay up and watch it tonight. I'll see it on YouTube tomorrow with all the comments like "drummer X" is so much better - why didn't they get "drummer Y" instead. My favourite is "drummer Z" and this guy sucks ass etc etc.
Hope you enjoy it
Gavin
I enjoyed Tony's performance too.
I would say that the drummer have to pick a song in a list gave by the MD of that show ?
