I was thinking maybe we could get a little metal/heavy discussion and sharing thread started to check out everyone's personal projects. I don't recall seeing one posted before..
This is my prog-ish metal group, "The Gorge". This song is off our full-length from a couple years ago. Anywho, give it a listen if ya like (and can get past the screaming vocals ), and let's hear some of what you guys are doing!

Very cool, man. I'm digging on the guitar sounds, and that snare sounds FAT! It's gotta be a 14X7" at least, I'd guess?? Good stuff!

Thank you! Well, believe or not it's a 14 x 5 Sonor Delite maple snare and the fat sound is due to quite heavy processing on which my guitarist insisted. Oh well... I've received good feedback on it several times from soundmen at venues where we played and it sounds brilliant even in shit-quality videos we recorded with a cheap camera. Go to our YouTube channel to see what I mean. I'm really happy with it but I'd love to get my hands on a Sonor 6-inch deep maple snare some day!
Cheers!
Cheers!

First, I have a huge problem getting over that type of vocals.
But for what I could listen I find interesting that your riffs are fairly complicated and sound like they're in odd times when actually everything is in 4 for or 6, just phrased longer.
Your drumming complements those riffs well.
But somebody has to tell me why every metal singer has to sing like that.
To my ear it's intolerable and all sound the same.
That's Satan's voice or what?!

Where is Jim Richman? Hes is a killer heavy drummer.
I cant stand the people I come across that want to play metal here in Michigan so I dont even bother with it anymore.
And i love metal.

Thanks! Although I have a great appreciation of metal, and i regularly by CDs that most people think are sick, I have been moving away from that in my playing. The reason is there are so many kids who are good at it with blasting etc... I have left it for them. I cannot find the time to practice blast beats or insane intricate doublebass. It is very time consuming to get to the level to perform/record. I do not practice enough to be able to do the modern stuff anymore. But I can rip some old school!langmick wrote:Where is Jim Richman? I am basically a FAN of metal bands. I really enjoy the stuff coming out these days. My main focus is playing jazz instrumental prog kinda stuff.
My greatest metal experience was when I subbed drums for Arsis. It was a one off show. And it was like getting a degree in metal drumming.
I have recorded some metal in the past, but I am not in any mood to promote anything.

Holy shit, Jim I watched an old vid by you many years ago and I was like "who the hell is that?" and now I know it was you ;D

That was in my earlier days when I would soak up anything and everything with fast double bass!

Here's a little teaser of my band's upcoming album
I've working on this for something like 3 or 4 years, I don't even remember anymore. We've had SO many obstacles and we still do. When I finish this album I am gonna stop playing in bands and move on with my life. Playing in a band it's so financially demanding it's just impossible to keep doing it. I want to settle down, save some money to get some things I really need to have a better life and being close to 30 I can't postponing anymore.
Btw i am not an awesome metal drummer, I don't have fast feet or anything and can't do anything too flashy. I've been playing in bands for 15 years and all have failed strepitously. If I can finish this album for me it will be a huge acomplishment and I will leave music as a satisfied man.
Btw Jim Richman is a badass

I actually play heavy stuff all the time of all the stuff I've done this is my project along with three great musicians:

And lately I've been very involved with this band. Same vocalist, solo project. We're getting in great live shape and I just go for the heaviness

And here's me in JSS' last album:
