Just came accross this.. I have this on LP.. Have not heard this in sooo long... One of my all time favorite latin-funk tune with Dave Weckl. Michael Brecker being himself in a significant way... Will Lee on bass...

Hey Deep Fried... You're correct... I did use the term "latin" loosely here... This tune's got a fusion of different elements in it for sure... And I love it.. .gif)

Well said deep fried. Any occasion I have to play something latiny is esitamted at best - but I've talked to several serious latin guys about it and I know my place (or lackthereof) in the grand scheme. There's a ton of stuff to dive into, and is often challenging to say the least. I was wondered why Weck didn't get more into the traditional thing, I thought it was interesting that he produced Raul Peneda's disc. Raul is no joke, his disc sounded like a Weckl disc but more authenticity. He's a fantastic player.

I'm pretty sure Weckl has the legit latin stuff on lock down... I mean he hangs with El Negro. Also, on his cds Heads Up and Hard Wired anything latin, if looked at in transcription, retains a lot of congruency to legit songo beats.

and don't forget the weckl samba. not really samba accents but it works in his case.

I've hung out with Scotsmen, but I still can't play the bagpipes for shit.
