Im sure he said similar things about Yamaha when he was on their roster, and im sure he will say the same thing when we find out where he is going next. In fairness though, part of me thought that the passage you put here was the truth when he spoke it. Oh well.
The thing is that when he was playing Yamaha, he was playing Gretsch in studio, like Jeff Porcaro and even JR ("Off The Wall").
I think he can use his kit and remove the brand, we know that it's his kit, I mean drummers know, I would love to see him not endorsing any brand anymore, he doesn't need it.

I agree Rodge. Vinnie is at a point in his career where most artist will take care of any gear rental he needs and Vinnie can afford the few extra expenses here and there if ever needed. This would give someone like Vinnie the total freedom to do what he wants with out having to be a closet gear player like he used to be. I've always dreamed of being at a point where i don't need endorsements (though I'm NOT and rely on them daily to survive, so thank you Sabian/Vater/Gretsch) and can mix and match my drums and cymbals that i feel inspired by on a certain giving day. I think we get caught up in endorsements and the success label that's strapped to it. The only thing that gets in the way of this thought is the ad exposure. Not that Vinnie needs it...
It's been a while since I've posted so I really need to post a couple pipes...

Well, you never hear the Professor and Vinnie's name mentioned in the same sentence very often...

The Professor is Neil Peart! The Professor on the drum kit as geddy would put it. Jeff I. is not a professor. he's a guy who likes to do the best he can.
it would be cool if vinnie and neil played the same named brands. and at the same time i could give a flying shit across the vast part of this universe what any drummer chooses to play name brand wise. i'm perplexed why drummers or anyone including their family or best friends cares what type of wood resonating jimmy changa they choose to hit while holding name brand wood in their hands.
a drum is a drum
