We'll know next week during Musikmesse

A qoute from another forums posting...
"Word is that he "fired" Zildjian officially 2 days ago ....
Vinnie keeps his cards close to his vest ....he was testing Paiste before NAMM because Zildjian had pissed him off one too many times for sending cymbals to him for gigs that weren't the ones he spec'd. Supposedly a couple of Zildjian reps left NAMM and flew over to catch him in Europe and he wouldn't talk to them.
The cymbals he was using in the Sting video were 602s and mostly the paper thin models ... except for the ride of course.
Things are getting a bit stirred up in the drum world lately.

Re: Vinnie no longer with Zildjian?
Pretty hilarious a company just wouldn't do whatever it took to keep him there.... particularly considering the A Custom line...
But you know, according to you know who. Zildjian doesn't pay artists. So if that's true, it's hard to see why anyone would stay if they weren't happy.
A guy like Vinnie has all the money in the world, it's hard to say what exactly is going on. When you have that level of wealth, what you play is purely up to who courts you well enough... don't like that flavor of jesters, well another is bought so easily....

That's a big 602 ride - they only make 20" medium rides - looks like a 22"...
It makes sense for him to play 602s - they are pure sounding and he seems to like that clean sound most of the time -

I'd agree that one doesn't pass a sniff test.

Re: Vinnie no longer with Zildjian?
There is no logo on the underside of those cymbals in the Sting slip and from the sound and overtones they do sound like Paist cymbals. I was endorsed with them briefly but due to stock issues a few years ago I went back to Zildjian with no deal in place.
I think Paiste make some astounding cymbals especially the 602 and Dark Energy range but really at the end of the day who cares..... Vinnie is Vinnie and we will all follow his success no matter what he plays.

Some interesting opinions, insights, and speculation on Vinnies switch from Yamaha to Gretsch back in the day, from an old Drummerworld forum, found here: http://www.drummerworld.com/forums/show ... hp?t=55183
A part I found most interesting, and one that will have me digging out old MD's along with the stellar Soul Cages video:
"If you watch the Sting video, Soul Cages live, one thing sticks out to drummers: the bass drum says “Yamaha” but all of the drums are Gretsch. There was also an ad in Modern Drummer about the same time featuring Vinnie for the Drum KAT. The photo was taken with the same kit. The lugs on the drums are Gretsch. So there may have been some mounting friction between Vinnie and Yamaha at this point."
Hmm...I never noticed that.
That same Drummerworld thread has a lot of speculation regarding endorsements, which has been discussed and disputed here ad nauseum, so, let's not beat THAT dead horse.
Also, in this link, starting at about 3:00, the Gretsch's talk about Vinnie:
