Remo Coated Ambassador X
Remo Coated Ambassador X
Anyone tried one on a snare drum? How does it compare to the regular coated ambassador?

Hey man, I tend to use this head a lot for my 13x7 snare. I typically crank this drum up and I notice it doesn't choke the drum like an emperor would, but it still has great durability(trust me, I used this snare on all my metal/rock gigs before I could afford a better one). It will be a little dryer than a regular coated ambassador but I think the response is about the same.

I'm a little weary about the durability of Remo's coating, and have been for awhile. The durability factor was the main selling point because I was using regular coated A's and had to change my snare head too often.
The X is a wee bit more durable and I began to dig the sound too. I've since started using them on my toms instead of regular A's and they sound like "broken in" coated emperors out of the box.

I finally got around to trying Coated Ambassador X heads on my toms today. They sound and feel okay, but I prefer regular Ambassadors (clear or coated).
(just realized that my original post was exactly a year ago.... weird...)

I am now and I and after many years using coated A's again, the coating has lasted a few weeks now but I do remember even on coated emps the coating would come off after 1-2 gigs.

Yeah you just can't beat the coating on evans heads though. And now with the level 360 thing, it just doesn't make sense to buy anything else... What I can't get away from is the coated PS3 bass heads. I just wish they made a 12 mil version...

yeah, if only the evans sounded as good. .gif)

Yeah, every few years I take a look around at the competition but I always go back to Remo. Evans heads seem muted to me. They're lacking frequencies I want to hear.

I use those for my 10" and 12" toms on my RC's right now. A nice go-between for the Ambassadors and Emporers. Too much for the snare for my taste, but yeah, great heads.

Tried 'em and went back to regular coated Ambs. They didn't feel right under the stick for me -
