I was joking around with Derek on Saturday about how Vinnie switched to the Neil Peart ride cymbal-by the floor tom-with-two-crashes-in-the-front setup. He sounds great as always but it is kind of odd. I'm sure doing as much touring as he does he needs to get as efficient as possible to work as little as possible physically. Endurance is key on the long-show tours for months and months I imagine.

I don't doubt that Vinnie is probably trying to change his sound & set-up to make things more interesting sonically and physically.
It's not like he can play a different kit every night on a long tour like we have to in little clubs in NYC or other towns where there is a different house kit set-up in every venue.

Could be like Manu, or Peart (Vinnie used to have one of those mustaches) - but I was thinking this setup is similar to one of Sting's other previous drummers...
