I don't like tabla drumming much in this jazz fussion settings but his playing is more melodic, rhythmic and supporting than the previous guitar player.

I sort of dig the tabla thing.
I was at a seminar with Zakir and Eric Harland about a month ago. Really nice and humble guy (reminds me of McLaughlin that way.) Got me inspired to get back into working on my so far very limited tabla chops.

I must say that as great Zakir is, he breaks my balls big time in those clips with Herbie, just in trio would have been perfect to me.

Yeah,It's a bit much. I sort of grew up doing "dixie-style" jams in any style, so I get all nostalgic with stuff like that. As long as there's real interplay I can dig it.
