Ironic timing...just watched this clip below the other day.
Go to 37 min mark for interview and then Buddy on Ed's drums.

Classic Johnny-Doc exchange at the beginning (@ 10min)...lots of weed
talk between Doc and Buddy...pretty hilarious and way ahead of its
time considering the events of the past year. Original commercials as well.

Yes Buddy's GROOVE often gets ignored due to the other "more outrageous" aspects of his performances. However, I have often said (and talked to many guys about this, Freddie said I really nailed it, an actual compliment from Freddie, WOW!) That when Buddy was surrounded by his peers (not the college kids that often filled his bands) he really shined, in those cases he toned everything down (including his ego) and added a heightened sense of musicality and taste. THAT was the "real" Buddy (IMHO) the musician Buddy. The other guy (15 min solos, etc) was the entertainment version of Buddy (Buddy "The Spectacle.")

Buddy's "rock" (straight eighth) groove was pretty cool too, (that never gets talked about,) and what great greasy shuffle he had. He was a pretty "swunky" cat when he wanted to be.
