I think I´ve never seen him playing with the cymbals that low... He´s lower than previous Ludwig setups (look at the china!)

+1 Steve.
He's gone from ludicrously high cymbals (compared to his seat height) in the early 80s, to really very high in the early 90s, to super-super low now...
Look how high his ride cymbal is in the Ten Summoner's Tales recording!

Garage band ride cymbal position!! Hahaha, good one. I would also call that the Neil Peart ride cymbal position. Or something like that.

He's been using both ride positions lately. Almost seems like a choice used only when playing wih Sting?
Low cymbals is easy to understand that's how I do it, too. It's just comfy. Don't see the band because the cymbals aren't high enough? To me that's because they aren't low enough.
Might not looks as impressive, but much easier to play. I can play any splash as easy as accenting on the snare.

Maybe he has shoulder pain who know, he's not getting any younger, it's normal...

Actually makes a lot of sense... Love that picture of Vinnie with his new stealth kit ! That footage of him in Chile with Herbie playing the Yammies was friggin awesome. What's that smaller snare drum there ?
