Not you Chris! :)

That other thread was pretty remarkable.

I got the vibe that he was looking for a fight from the first post.

People who sign up for forums and immediately start pimping something are obviously interested in marketing, not discussion. It's tacky, and they don't care because their initial goal of exposure (leading to financial gain) has been achieved.

You gotta do it if you're counting on music as your primary source of income, but there's more than one way to market. Some marketing ways are more genuine than others. I've never cared about that as much as getting my playing to a particular level, but to each their own. You excel at what you choose to focus on. What you focus on shows your priorities.

Your priorities (and behavior) show who you are.

Having said that you have to take into account age, and experience when evaluating one's behavior I suppose. Maturity and all that.

The thing about lots of teachers hiding stuff from their students has nothing to do with my experience with any of my teachers...
Most successful poeple will be happy to share and encourage...
btw, in the same vid he says that drumming is not a competition though couple of minutes later he states that some students has eventually "surpass" him... :/

I just don't like the tactics of his marketing.. I talked with him,. I can't remember if he phoned or I did.. I think he phoned me...
He was a nice guy.. not a dick,....but totally driven to market himself, came across as a used car salesman.... He sells this many drumsticks,, blah blah blah more than anybody else at guitar centers ect, ect.. He fully stated his intentions was to get traffic on his site from this forum and others...

I don't think he started out wanting to cause shit... just here to promote himself.. but somewhere along the line he took offense and went to the dark side...

I guess what it is, is that he loves teaching more than he loves playing. I don't want to get nasty... but why would anyone want to learn that?

A video company was so impressed with Mike Johnston that they wanted to do a documentary on his life.

So I did some sleuthing...the "video company" is a guy who is a student/disciple of Mike Johnston. BS-ing is an unfortunate part of humanity, of course, that some like to do a lot.

Congrats to Mike on all his successes.
