No offense but why put him in a box? Lets just let him be Gergo...himself. He earned it.

Fair enough comment, but part of the fun we have around here is being able to decipher influences in new players. Chances are if you asked Gergo, he might tick off the names of five European drummers none of us Yankees have ever heard of, but as a group of listeners, it's fun to put our extensive background to the test to see if we agree on what we hear. It's sort of one way we validate (and maybe justify) spending all the money we do on music no one else listens to. LOL

One of my favorite threads of all time was a link to song someone put up and we had to guess who the drummer was just based on distinctive style. (I won -- it was Frank Briggs -- and I cheated because I owned the CD. haha!)
“Let's try some of my songs.” Dave Grohl, top sign drummer will be fired.

I couldn't put my hands on the fire on this, but I have Gergo on my facebook and he seems to be really into the same drummers we are into. I truly don't hear any "Eastern Euro" influence on his playing, but perhaps I am wrong.

You know Manu, in France people are like "yeah, Rodge listened Vinnie A LOT !!!"
Now ask to an US drummer, they are more "yeah Rodge likes Vinnie, but there is also something "weird" (as unknow) in his drumming, maybe he's from Africa or something..."
(I know that Weckl said that about my drumming, I don't know him though, and a lot of other drummers too...)

I think that's it's the same with Gergo, I can hear his influences from Dennis and Vinnie, but there is also something "weird" in his drumming.

No doubt. I was just pointing out we could be totally off base and it wouldn't make the exercise any less fun or useful to us. Fact is this group is so well cultured and abreast of so many players, we're probably going to narrow down someone's influences in five posts or less.

Weird is good, Rodge! Weird = personality. ;)

I didn't want to be the cretin to suggest most of us Americans have a hard time thinking beyond our borders, but that's inevitably true. The next great young French drummer we hear could totally remind us of Vinnie, but could just as easily be influenced by you or Yohann Schmitt!

Although Gergo lacks the sheer violence of his playing, I sometimes wonder if he was into Mike Terrana, who also has some "weirdness" in his playing (even though he's originally from New Jersey ... or maybe that explains it, right Steve? ha!)
