And there it is. A 5x12 Gretsch maple with suspension mount, but all they make is that 6x10 ash thing. So, there are the holes in the line. Some 10s and 12s.

Good thing he's not using a Tommy Lee style platform with that tongue.

@ Paul: LOL (actually)

Vinnie is my size these days, but then, I can't improvise a lick like the soprano snare/hihat lick @ 4:12 in the unboxing video. I dreamt of that fill last night. No joke. Sheeez.

Are these USA Customs? I much prefer the tom mounts to the ugly big Suspension mount or whatever they're called

Always US Customs as far as I know. He's playing Renowns with Jeff on the Clapton festival and used New Classics a bit when they came out, but..

His new white with chrome Jasper kit and this one have vintage mounts. No suspension.

Maybe paul knows why?

The new one is a refinished old one, so it might have been on a Sting gig or two before..

It seems like at around the time he went to Ludwig he was into simplifying things, went off suspension generally and even dampens toms a bit. Maybe works better for his busy style or are just more comfy to play or whatever...

Those aren't what I would call vintage. Vintage Gretsch mounts would be the rail consolette with the clip-on or those cheesy monster tom holders that you see on Tony Williams' drums in clips from the 70s. The mounts on Vinnie's drums have only been around for about ten years. He doesn't care for suspension mounts for a few reasons. Regular mounts work just fine and are much simpler. Suspension mounts make positioning awkward and over-complicate things in general.

When you order Gretsch drums, you have the option of installing different mounts with or without (directly to shell) suspension.

Jajaj, that was great, Paul...

After trying several suspention mount systems myself, I gotta agree. Just give something classy and functional and I´m happy... Virgin BD? GTFO.

btw, those Paiste sound great on the vid...

Mmm, not sure what you guys want him to say? It´s like receiving a present... You thank the person even if you think it´s useless for you. And no, I´m not comparing an endorsement with a present...
It´s a business decision for both parts... I would love to see Vinnie playing PHX, but that´s another story.
