Apologies if this has been posted previously. This is absolutely fascinating, a tour of Hal Blaine's drum kit. A piece of history! That sound is so recognisable, it's incredible.

Cool post Darren. The open toms was far more popular back in the day.
I assume this was for ease of recording/ mic placement, etc. Collins
seemed to like this sound as well. I really hear Phil's sound in the higher toms
ala Abacab and Duke. My first real kit was like Phil's until I got
a DW and had to learn to tune a reso head. I do remember how easy it was
to set-up, quick tune, and play.

This guy recorded so much I am really surprised after a take while hanging out
someone didn't just say, "Hal...dude, you're here 3x a week, just keep a kit
here!" Repeat to the other major studios.

The I'd Hit That with Hal is classic, as is the Wrecking Crew documentary.

This sound seemed to be on every tv show theme from the 60s and 70s.

Hal Blaine - loving father of Michelle Blaine; grandfather of Anthony, Josh, Aaron, Whitney, Tempest, Ever and Lyryk; and inspiration to countless friends, fans and musicians - has passed on today, March 11th, 2019 at the age of 90.
May he rest forever on 2 and 4.

Acceptable drum sounds in the era of Hal Blaine, on huge pop hit.

No one seemed to really care too much, as long as it recorded ok, and was out of the way of the vocals and guitars.
