John Longstreth. Terrifying.
John Longstreth. Terrifying.
This is actually ridiculous. I was predominantly a metal / death metal drummer for years but have fallen quite out of the loop the past 5-10 years. Stumbled on to this a few minutes ago and can't actually believe it. The bar was very high when I was tuned in mid 2000s but this is actually off the chart. Scary.

Why is it called "Death Metal"? Does someone die? Isn't "Speed Metal" a better label?

This stuff is like Charlie and Dizzie and I'm the west coast.
I think it will always be like that.
Guess I'm too old.

Yes, infants predominantly. BTW the drummer is sick. I'm into different kinds of metal but the guy plays like he's eating his morning croissant. Amazing!

"Why is it called "Death Metal"?"
Well, we have Gospel Chops, and we have Death Metal. Yin and yang type of thing.

"Speed metal" isn't really a legit genre. maybe some bands may have briefly identified with it decades ago, but in the 10-15 years I was in to metal I literally didn't come across one person who used the term. It's called "Death Metal" because of the morbid lyrical themes and imagery.

He's got a great touch. Effortless looking technique. A pioneer in extreme playing, gravity blasts, double strokes on bass drums, fast!
He is like a godfather of modern metal playing.
Not a fan of his band, but what he does is amazing.

Hmmm.... Then wouldn't "Morbid Metal" be more appropriate? Nice alliteration with that.
