Hmm, what would have happened to Steve and Journey were he not to get the boot back then...he had quite a few years left playing high energy rock arena shows.

Wore out this album on cassette. Great tunes and musicianship.

Berlin isn't on that record. He was just helping Ponty audition drummers.

I had it on vinyl and then got it on CD. I too listened to it incessantly, and my playing has been overly influenced by Smith's drumming (as well as Wackerman's) ever since. I'm still trying to cleanse myself of it. I feel like such a copycat sometimes.
I just related to that record too much I guess. Everyone on it was playing at such a high level. Henderson's solos are incredible too.
Re: Steve Smith Back in Journey
This tune has the best SS drum solo.

Thanks Paul...when I typed that my inner voice wasnt too sure! lol
One of the best SS interviews I ever saw.
There is a Vital Info tune...off one of the early LPs that has a rock
vibe...anyone know that tune? It was my favs back in the day...
Lang,...Steve did do some hard rock work in the late 80s...Tony MacAlpine
Edge of Insanity is pretty blazing...then the work with Y&T (Ten) and The Storm.
Arguably the most innovative rock drummer in the late 70s-early 80's...Captured
killed it.
Kurtis...thanks...never heard that solo! Soooo musical...never let up.
Posted b4 but this is pretty rockin for Mr Smith...Love this first groove...POCKET

Haven't heard this in years, used to play this constantly, picked it apart. He was still in rock drummer mode then. Missed catching them on this tour, kicked myself for months.
Same with this album, some of his best jazz-rock playing.
