Re: Assorted videos / YouTube thread
I really enjoyed this documentary. Colin Hay is a special artist:
Re: Assorted videos / YouTube thread
I noticed there aren't any videos of Mauricio Zottarelli here, a great Brazilian drummer based in NYC whose credits include Hiromi, Chuck Loeb (RIP), Oriente Lopez, Eddie Daniels and many others. IMHO, he is a monster. His playing is so fluid, combining power and subtlety. I'm sure Vinnie is a influence.
By the way, I rarely post, sorry, but I've been a reader of this great forum for many years.

Yeah Jack has some ears, maybe his great piano's skills are for something in this.
You did describe very well the feeling of his drumming on this track, right on.
No video of my band playing it, sorry.

There is a take of that one with Jeff, but it's that one here that I really love, Jack on drums, I play that song with my 5tet, it's instant fire !!!
Jack probably has the best ears in the business (OK...just my opinion). His playing is always responsive and soulful. On this track you can add silky smooth to that list as well. Thanks for posting that, Rodge.
BTW...do you have a video/recording of your group playing that tune? Would love to hear it.
I come from Tain, Vinnie, Omar, Jeff, Fish, Stewart, and many more...

RIP Mike Laird.

Zildjian Days over the years...
Some oddities (for me):
1) Tony Williams wearing regular clothes...and playing non-Gretsch drums (don't want to give it away
)
2) Simon Phillips wearing a Tony Williams jumps suit
Stand-outs for me:
1) Vinnie(of course)
2) Tony Williams performing thematic magic
3) Steve Gadd & Ralph MacDonald doing their groove thing with classic Gaddisms
4) Dennis Chambers building on a 1/2-time shuffle groove after his explosive intro
5) Peter Erskine doing an amazingly musical thing on a hip gig set
Should you watch this on YouTube...if you click in the area where the time slider is...you can get the "chapters" listed to the right side of the screen, just like in the YouTube mixes
Let's take a lesson with Gary Chaffee (let me know if there are any legal issues with this one...see the FBI warning at the beginning. I'll remove the embed)

When in doubt...roll.

I didn't get it, but the more listened to it, and what Tommy was doing, some heavy stuff became clear. He is telling a story with the whole solo.
Re: Assorted videos / YouTube thread
Yeah I've alaways enjoyed Tommy's performance here, his tunning, his phrasing, his mad hi-hat work, indeed he's telling a story, a beautiful one to my ears, good call man.
