Yes Navega you know your shit brother !!!
Jean-Phi was indeed Sakesho's drummer, and yes I did several gigs with Sixun, subbing for that genius named Paco Séry.

Sparkly solo... Like that post-fill crash at 1:12... In da pocket all the way, how he gravitates through the hardware failure... Love the snare... A true Artist, Pro and Gentleman...

Rodge wrote:Something really different for you guys, I love that guy, he was also drummer several years for The Voice in France, he always plays with a lot of joy, he's a REALLY sweet guy to boot, here Jean-Phillipe Fanfant from FWI.
Love that Rodge, great player. You might enjoy these Algerian players.
No drums no life, know drums know life...

Yeah, Karim and Omar (the youngest very into Vinnie) are my boys, I know them since very longtime, they own their rhythm heritage from North Africa (Algeria indeed).
More than great drummers, they are beautiful musicians producing their own music/albums.

Yeah Rodge I really dig the new version of Toto too.
And I agree, Paco is a GENIUS! I saw him play a kalimba solo with Joe that brought down the house, imagine that? He was the perfect drummer for Zawinul too , like Cornell Rochester, Paco was always "right on the edge." (And he sat with his shoulders square too. HA!) It's a shame he and Joe didn't get to work together that much.
Pretty cool that you subbed in Sixun, but I hope you didn't have to play Paco's kit. The way he sets up is so "unique," but it almost hurts me to look at it. I saw him once live, and could not believe how he got around on such an uncomfortable looking set up (and I'm NOT talking about the "open handed thing.")
What a GREAT show! But look at that kit (I wonder if they were his drums?) Small tom above the ride, mounted toms were WAAAY high, snare well below the top rim of the BD and even further below the tops of his legs, (much of this was probably caused by the) HUGE bass drum, the octapad is mounted too close for comfort, a flat mounted to the FAR left of the hh and his main ride, and how do you even reach the china that is to the left of the flat?
But man does he make it work!!!! GENIUS! Great music!!! I love that whole band!
