Re: SIMON PHILLIPS - The thread about Simon
Weckl introduced me to Simon at the Catalina jazz club on my birthday in the late 90's I believe. He was nice.
I Love Pino and Babko - what a dream band.

the past 8 months or so in the car has been SP on drums. all the stuff he has played on. all of it. no rocket science drum stuff wise going on. just super solid drumming with the coolest big drum fills one can play. Simon has a new album coming out with darwin. not to many casts play power toms / big drums for 40 years.

Re: SIMON PHILLIPS - The thread about Simon
Simon's huge drum kit and visibility in the fusion scene belies what he is all about in my opinion: absolutely monster pocket. He's not going to come close to Vinnie or Weck chops, but the man can lay down a groove and big ol rock fill that just sounds and feels absolutely great. His time in Toto is as good as it gets when it comes to musical pop drumming appropriately balancing pocket, taste, and flare. It's controversial, but I think his pocket was better in Toto than Jeff's...
