I'm trying to compile a list of well know tunes using the most basic of grooves:
Hi Hat 8th Notes, Bass Drum on 1&3, Snare on 2&4
The idea is to have a selection of "real songs" at a veriety of tempos for students to play along to in the very early stages of learning.
Off the top of my head I came up with:
Michael Jackson - Billy Jean
AC/DC - too many to mention!
Any other suggestions would be most welcome.

For rock, I always suggest Bad Company's first record, "Bad Company".
Easy to hear the drum parts in the mix, and they are easy to play as you'll find.

careful with Billie Jean, that groove is deceptive in it's use of swung upbeat accents on the hats.
AC/DC, phil rudd was all over the simple playing. but for that matter most pop and rock is all about 2 & 4...
Abe Jr is a bad mofo

Tom Petty's "I won't back down" and "Free Falling" (for the & of 2).
Two tempos. Easy fills on both.

I love "What A Fool Believes" by The Doobie Brothers.
I come from Tain, Vinnie, Omar, Jeff, Fish, Stewart, and many more...

B52's - Love Shack
Coldplay - Yellow
Coldplay - In my place (slightly more "advanced" bass drum pattern)
The Corrs - Irresistible
Sting - I'm so happy I can't stop crying (more of a swung feel)
American Hi-Fi - Flavour of the Week
