Re: Blushda Alert
I say we collectively contact the companies that endorse him and show them this thread and the ridiculous statements this guy has made. He seems to feel that companies are looking for people like him and not the guys on HOD. He just gave me another reason to continue to ignore Meinl cymbals. Ha. Seriously though, Im sure if his companies knew the type of person and drummer he is seen as and portrays himself to be in the real world, he'd have to start shelling out the big duckets for his toys just like all of us on here who arent in the companies sights. Haha. I think i will pick another one of Steve's videos, rehash it, then blast everybody on here when they respond and pick fights. Im gonna book my flight to the Zildjian factory nowwith an empty suitcase to fill with all the cool gear they are gonna give me for next to nothing.
And for when he retorts, yes Im pretty much a nobody. Ive toured most of the country with people you will never hear of, and I gig once or twice a week almost every week in my region with three different bands cause they like what I do. Most will never hear of me.

Re: Blushda Alert
Gee, that thread went into a skid quite fast and so did disappear Mike.
I thought it was pretty clear that his blushda video was an infomercial for his drum camps.
Like any infopub you get little real info. We can call this "surgical marketing".
Target: The HOD members or more advanced players who like Vinnie/Tony.
Teaser: A blushda variation.
Goal: Get traffic on his site and people at drum camps.
So complaining that Mike didn't show enough in his vid misses the point. It's his way of making a living in the music business whether we like it or not.
I thought what would have been reproached to Mike is that it was his introductory post on this forum. I don't know if he was interested by a longer participation on general drumming topics.
Steve had mentioned a few times that he doesn't like self promoting/mercantile posts especially as the 1st.
But trash talking in the back? It seemed like he was kinda ready and looking for a fight and he got it. Bad attitude.
I had never heard of Mike before and in 10+ years on HOD I never saw his name mentioned.
That being said, I liked Mike's idea and think he's a good player with a good sound.

I was just suggesting that for the kids who do not know, as there some details that could have been added to the lesson. It's 10 minutes long, and you could have easily taken the time to mention how you are flamming to make the video more informative. Play a right flam between the snare and floor and it sounds horrible (to me), but a left flam sounds nice. I'm just saying that the video would be more informative if the flam was actually mentioned in regards to what kind it is. They all make a difference in how the overused lick sounds.

Now we are getting somewhere! Finally someone has some balls to say something to my face instead of behind my back, lol. Yes HOD guys, I see all of your trash talking as well. Unfortunately you guys have a mole planted by me a very long time ago. So Jim, can you send me the link to the video where you demonstrate to the kids the one and only way to play The Blushda? I assume you wouldn't critique what I have done unless you had done something better yourself right? right?
Holy trolling for a fight, Batman! I guess Mike is still bitter after his last visit.

I thought of going to his site out of a morbid curiosity, lol but that wasn't enough...

Re: Blushda Alert
check out the UnReel Drum Book, there are some great transcriptions of vinnie's playing that pretty accurately transcribe how he manipulates time. stuff like accenting every 4 in a group of 11:8, that starts on the E of beat 3. mind wrenching stuff.
also you might want to check out Illusions in Rhythm by by Osami Mizuno in collaboration with Vinnie Colaiuta. sick little gem that covers some heavy note/time manipulation material - http://home.att.ne.jp/delta/osami/engli ... /books.htm
will check that stuff out. have seen the unreel drum book stuff. the osami mizuno stuff sounds very interesting. thanks for the links!
have not checked in for a few days. wow. this thread went to shit. kind of perplexed that some HOD guys who post on here all the time gave this such substance. funny. why even bother replying. just let it die. guess it's always about the last laugh. love the passion though! HOD is where it's at.
i do like mikes playing. very good player. nice chops and good feel. this online drum lesson shit is so lame. sorry for the bad. i like to look at the brighter side of things. i appreciate contrast. why go the route of this online lesson fame/money making thing. dude just get in a band and play your ass off. post stuff of you playing with a band playing music. seeing and hearing that shows so much more insight of how it all comes together. screw the "kids". they will be just fine. we all find our way. no i'm not implying screw our young peoples. i have two of them. to even have to explain ourselves these days is getting out of control.
did i just give a shit?

Maybe we just learned the reason he's not in a band?

Re: Blushda Alert
blushda alert? no alert necessary, I know what it is and how to play it. Which is why I didn't bother to read the thread. Until now. I didn't read the whole thing, but damn. so much passion.
is there value in these drummercial type things? yes, for the most part and no, for the most part. But this forum isn't the market for that stuff. it doesn't hurt to pay some dues on the forum if you really want people to take notice and buy stuff.
doesn't mean one can't post here, but there's a good way and bad way to do it.

You know, I actually called Mike up and we talked for quite a while. Very nice guy. It was real. As the internet has many different ways of looking at things, and sarcasm does not come out, talking on the phone is the most direct way of communicating.
I haven't followed this thread after I talked with Mike, which was right after this. Funny. I like the dude. He also knows that this place is filled with monster players, which he has the utmost respect for. So anyway, I plan on spamming this place when I do my music videos!!!!!!!!

Personally, I think the "let's talk shit about him now that he's gone" thing is uncool, and shows immaturity on our part. Isn't that what part of his beef was about?
