I looked it up on Wiki; clinic in music; an informal meeting with a guest musician, where a small- to medium-sized audience questions the appearing musician's particular styles and techniques. What's wrong with using his info at home? It stimulates practicing and while practising you form your own ideas which is something Vinnie supports. And besides, you don't have to steal his licks, because they are free. If so, then I don't understand his problem with this recent uploaded clinic in which he plays these "free" licks.

Regarding VC off the throne...Well I had the opportunity to meet him in 94.He was all of the great things people say about him, except toward this one cat who was heckling him and pissing him off...Vinnie stood his ground verbally and then proceeded to play the living shit out of the drums like only he can.....

The jerk being an a-hole almost didnt make it out of there alive that night because of all of the other drummers in the audience..

what was the asshole's problem exactly? was it a clinic setting?

It was a concert setting...I dont know what the DB's problem was. He's an old jazz drummer from around my hometown with a massive Stanley Crouch complex and not enough talent to back it up...So I suppose he was just being a jerk for the sake of being a jerk.He is kind of known for it.
There is nothing left to say.

Man, can you imagine seeing/hearing this in 1987 !!! :o
What a shock, a HUGE one, a real fucking revolution, man, I was not born yet that Vinnie was already my God.

We're in 2011 and we know now a lot a great cats with HUGE technics and power, but when you listen that thunder from 87, jeez, the guy is from another planet, another time, his own planet, his own way, I just love him.
I come from Tain, Vinnie, Omar, Jeff, Fish, Stewart, and many more...

I know it's hard for someone so young to imagine, but there was no internet back then, no smart phones, no YouTube, no iTunes. The only way you know about players was to read Modern Drummer and scour the jazz aisles of Tower Records looking for drummer credits listed on the back of a CD. Hearing this must've sent people into a coma from the shock, because even for Vinnie it's freakin' scary. Imagine everything you've come to know the last 20 years and then imagine not being aware of it all, or even aware someone had thought to play this stuff. It's a crap-your-pants moment.
