Vinnie signs deal with Paiste.

It's a blow to Zildjian, but I don't think it's as big of a blow as some of you all are making it out to be. We also don't know the facts, so the personal jabs at the guys from Zildjian - who generously post here sometimes - are way out of line. Maybe he wanted a different sound all together and that's all..who knows?

Right, it looks like he's changing drum companies too, so we shouldn't harp on Z until we know the facts...

This is a test to my brand loyalty because I'm such a Vinnie nut, but have found that I don't really have any interest in Paiste - not even because of Vinnie. Steve Jordan actually makes me more interested in Paiste than the Paiste's in the Sting vids Vinnie plays.

That might change when those shiny new ads and VC profiles come out! And you start to hear new recordings (and bootleg videos - HA!) down the pike!

It's way too early to start making assumptions about why Vinnie switched, IMHO.
All I know is that Vinnie will sound like Vinnie no matter what he's playing. He's THAT good.

While I know I will probably put a stick or two to a Paiste cymbal the next time I see one, I have heard very few that I have liked. They sounded fine, just not what I like. We shall see.

As far as famous equiptment and technique, while I feel that the sound is mostly in the hands, Im sure alot of cymbals were chosen because of the way they responded to the technique. For instance, the little hi-hat flourish at the beginning of Every Little Thing She Does is Magic, even played by Stewart, would have sounded different on a set of New Beats or K's. Same with Bonham's cymbals. Although, I can cop more of a Bonham sound with my Z's than Stewarts sound. I chave chosen mostly Z's over the years because of the feel under the stick, and the sound that comes out in relation/response to my technique. I'm sure I'm not alone in using this process.

I was in my local drum shop in Leeds on Friday, replacing an extinct snare drum stand,& conversation turned,as often does, to Vinnie: one of the guys had seen him last week in Manchester, so I asked him what cymbals Vinnie was using... he confirmed they were indeed Paiste, and that they sounded great.
The shop manager further offered the information, gleaned from their Gretsch rep, that he(Vinnie) had 'fallen out' with the Gretsches (something to do with the 125th anniversary marketing plans), but that ' bridges have been built', so they think he's continuing to use Gretsch .
Just passing on what I heard, but as everyone here has agreed(I think),
1. He can do whatever he likes
2. He will still sound like Vinnie.

Vinnie is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet and he's very very grateful for the gift of music that he has...
