It's almost a year late, but when you think about the schedule he has, not to mention having to juggle with Jay's schedule and Tom's and Mike's....yeah, patience is a virtue. There are a lot of people on this recording. And Dave is such a perfectionist. He's not gonna let this project loose till it meets his standards. I think it'll be great, though, having the Pledge Music project and his new band's recording (with Makoto Ozone) coming out this year!LinearDrumma wrote:Was wondering what happened to the pledge thingy...appreciate his honesty that is was more work than planned.Steve Holmes wrote:Interview starts around 30 minutes in:

Looks like his mixer was perched a bit precariously and fell or was knocked off.

It's sounds like he was quoting his Rumble intro solo from GRP Superlive.Juan Expósito wrote:

Got sucked into watching the Vic Firth game changing moments today. It's crazy how influential Dave is. Zack D. (The Weckl shoes story is great). Joel R. Cliff A. All those guys got their big breaks cause he refered them for the Camilo gig. Camilo loved Dave's playing so much he wanted Zack to play just like him. The fills. His ideas. All that. From 1986 till 1997 (or so) Dave was the man. His back to basics instructional video still holds up. No one 20 years later can play like he did back when he was in his late 20's. His stank still holds up to this day. Even tho some have attempted to clone his shit no one comes close!!!
I can't wait to see him Tuesday night. I just want to give him a BIG HUG.
It's crazy how there are very few human beings on the planet that can play as good as Dave does.
Weckl rant over.

Camilo has always had great players...which, to me, is ironic because Camilo himself is pretty far down the list as far as piano players go... I don't really know much about the instrument myself, but Camilo doesn't nearly have the musical "touch" that maybe Herbie or Chick or even players far less famous than those names. I'm not ascribing that piano players have to be "gentle", but I've never seen Camilo do anything that is smoother as opposed to resembling a beating... And that's my opinion about something I know next to nothing about.
Rant over.

I'll have the chance to sit down with Dave when he'll be in town for the Yamaha 30th clinic tour. I'm really curious to see the man up close. I've seen him in clinic before but never had the chance to study with him. This should be amazing.

I know what you mean Gretsch-O-Rama, but Camillo knows how to compose a great melody though, and he's not sloppy eaither as pianist player too.
I come from Tain, Vinnie, Omar, Jeff, Fish, Stewart, and many more...
