I was thinking this dude is killer. And then I heard the band come in on the end, thinking wow, this band is as good as Chick Corea.

LOL all the way.

I had the privilege of seeing Marcus Gilmore live with Gonzalo Rubalcaba a few years ago. He played like an alien from another planet. One tune was so out that I couldn't even figure out what the time signature was.

Great bass line by JP, we can hear here his love for James Jamerson, awesome, Chris Potter is delivering, great groove/vibe, can't beat the piano Fender for a warm vibe.
I come from Tain, Vinnie, Omar, Jeff, Fish, Stewart, and many more...

zildjian 400th Anniversary Concert. Marcus Gilmore paying tribute to Terri Lyne Carrington's induction into the Zildjian HALL OF FAME.

He has a huge vocabulary, and taste in musical choices. Oh, not a bad drummer either!
I'm sure it helped to have Roy Haynes as a grandfather and having Milford Graves as an early influence.

wiki quote:
When talking about Graves in Modern Drummer, he said "A lot of Milford’s playing deals with rhythm, but not in a very metric way—it’s non-metric, a lot of waves. It’s still melodic, even more so because it’s very linguistic. Milford doesn’t even really play snares. He keeps the snares off. His drumming sounds very melodic and very lyrical. It sounds like a language."
