NAMM 2009 Madness

January 17th, 2009 · No Comments

Jo Jo Mayer playing at NAMM 2009. More pics right here.

Jo Jo Mayer and Nerve put on a great show at the Sabian Live event. The Drum Channel was streaming a live show from outside with an impressive production setup. Various name drummers would show up and get interviewed. Of course the now famous colon-pipe pictures are back, showing no emotion like never before here (Facebook account may be required), and here (this time with booth babes!)
Tons more pics here, as well as here at Drummerworld. Discussion on the forum here.

2009! Billy Ward trusts us! Jo Jo at NAMM! Gergo slays us!

January 13th, 2009 · No Comments

Hey gang. As usual the forum has been serving up healthy doses of drum geekery. NAMM is around the corner too! I’m planning on going with camera in hand. I’m no Ron Dunnet, but I’ll get some good pics for us anyways! I recently aquired a new drum lockout on the West Side of LA. It feels good to get back to shedding with some degree of regularity. Working out the kinks of rudiments I’ve been working out on the pad was interesting. Who knows, maybe some new House of Drumming video lessons will show up. Anyone in Los Angeles interested in lessons should email me here.
Groovemaster Billy Ward chimed in on the forums to let us know he has some new material available on his site for download. Following Trent Reznor and NiN’s experiment, Billy has left it to the individual to name their price here on his site. High quality videos are included.
Looks like JoJo Meyer will be playing with nerve at the Sabian event. More info here. I’m looking forward to that!
Also I’m addicted to Facebook. Add me if you haven’t!

Lastly, drum porn anyone? Check out this videos of Gergo Borlai. This guy is pretty insane.

Neil Peart on studying with Erskine

November 4th, 2008 · No Comments

Drum God Neil Peart updated his site recently with an extensive, well written and interesting account of his recent preparation for the 2008 Buddy Rich Memorial Concert. Part of his process was taking some lessons with Jazz Legend Peter Erskine. Neil recounts an interesting tale of what it was like exploring new musical and drumming avenues leading up to the big show. Definitely worth a read.
I’m thankful Neil is such a great writer and uses the web to share with the world. More drummers and musicians should share testimony on their websites. It’s a way to educate, but also another form of inspiration. Also, I had a chance to take a lesson with Peter a few years back. It was a great experience on top of the extensive list of inspiring recordings he has been a part of. One of my favorites is Invitation, by the Jaco Pastorious Word of Moth Big band.
As usual, discussion on this right here. Peter often posts on the forums, no doubt he’ll chime at some point. Now we just gotta get Neil to sign up to the forum!

Brian Blade replacing Vinnie on some 5 Peace Band dates

October 23rd, 2008 · No Comments

According to the official web site, Brian Blade will be in place of Vinnie Colaiuta on several dates of this tour. I imagine these may change as the tour progresses. While Brian Blade is an excellent drummer, those looking forward to seeing Vinnie specifically may find this news disastrous numbing we’re going to off ourselves oh my God what the F@#ck is happening disappointing.

JoJo in LA. Novak with Yamaha. Todd and Gavin at the MD fest.

September 29th, 2008 · 1 Comment

Thanks to Janek Gwizdala for letting us know Jo Jo Mayer will be joining him for a gig in Pasadena on October 5th. Details here on his MySpace. Discussion on that show here on the forums.
Thanks to Todd Sucherman and Gavin Harrison for both sharing their experiences at this year’s MD Fest. Sounds like another great year for this landmark drum event.
Also it appears that Drumming Monster Gary Novak has switched from Drum Workshop drums to Yamaha seemingly unable to resist the new Phoenix line. Discussion on that here. I’ve had a chance to get some hands on time with the new Phoenix line and I can tell you to believe the hype. They sound amazing. .

I first heard of Todd Sucherman on the HOD forums a while back, and since then he has risen in the community quickly, and with good cause. Todd is a monster player who has recently finished his instructional DVD “Methods and Mechanics”. Pre-order info as well as video samples are available right here with many more video samples here as well.
Todd hangs on the forum fairly often and even thanks the HOD guys in the credits of his dvd (thanks Todd!) Discussion (with Todd) on the DVD right here on the forums.
