JoJo and Weckl hitting the road

February 25th, 2008 · No Comments

Looks like JoJo Mayer is still riding the wave of buzz from his MD Festival performance over a year ago, as well as his amazing instructional dvd. He’s following up with some clinic dates (finally!) His LA appearance is March 6th. Let me check the Sabian site for the rest of the dates oh wait they haven’t updated the site yet to show the March dates even though it’s Feburary 25th. Well in any case I can’t wait to see Jo Jo! Discussion on the clinic tour here
Also Drumming Jedi Master Dave Weckl is touring a lot these days with Mike Stern as well as some clinic dates. Check his (up to date) tour page for the latest.

  • One of my favorite players these days is Rodge Biwandu. His debut CD will be available October 16th. More links will be added as they are available. I’ve had a chance to check out the CD, the music is great and Rodge is burning.
  • Saxophonist Frank Fontaine has a new CD of burning aggressive straight-ahead stuff with Bob Hurst, Smitty Smith, and John Beasley. Clips and purchase info here.
  • 90 Minutes of footage of various drum lines sound sexy? Hells yeah it does! That’s why I was excited to learn about Lines on the Lot. Check out the trailer:

Goodbye Max

August 19th, 2007 · No Comments

Max definitely played a large part in shaping jazz as it was growing while bringing the drums to a new level in a solo context. He will be missed. Take a few minutes and get a sense of the footprint this man is leaving on music, as well as drumming.

July 15th, 2007 · No Comments

Two gigs in LA to check out if you’re in the area!
Tuesday July 17th 8:30pm at THE WHISKEY (on Sunset) with Rockstar INXS finalist Mig Ayesa. I just played the Hard Rock Hotel grand opening in Biloxi with Mig, it was a blast (pics from that trip here). Mig’s a great songwriter and performer; this should be a fun show!
More info on Mig here.
I’m also at The Baked Potato Sunday July 22nd with the high-energy instrumental trio ALTERED. Two sets, 9:00 and 10:30pm.
Altereds second CD “Graphic” is doing amazingly well, check it out if you haven’t. Samples, purchase info and vids all here on our Myspace.
