Drum God Neil Peart updated his site recently with an extensive, well written and interesting account of his recent preparation for the 2008 Buddy Rich Memorial Concert. Part of his process was taking some lessons with Jazz Legend Peter Erskine. Neil recounts an interesting tale of what it was like exploring new musical and drumming avenues leading up to the big show. Definitely worth a read.
I’m thankful Neil is such a great writer and uses the web to share with the world. More drummers and musicians should share testimony on their websites. It’s a way to educate, but also another form of inspiration. Also, I had a chance to take a lesson with Peter a few years back. It was a great experience on top of the extensive list of inspiring recordings he has been a part of. One of my favorites is Invitation, by the Jaco Pastorious Word of Moth Big band.
As usual, discussion on this right here. Peter often posts on the forums, no doubt he’ll chime at some point. Now we just gotta get Neil to sign up to the forum!
