Forums are being a bit flaky these days, I’m working on it. Currently they’re up and running. If they’re down, just check out some great Vintage Dennis with Sco.

New Thomas Lang DVD in the works
June 5th, 2006 · No Comments
The official Meinl web site has some info from the set of the new Thomas Lang DVD now in production. Instead of video clips however they have opted for audio interviews and photos(?) I’m very much looking forward to the new DVD since I think Thomas is amazing to say the least. However, since it is the year 2006 we may want to consider some video clips instead of certain pictures that may or may not be effective in getting one excited about a product. The rest of the photos (may I suggest accompanying music) available right here.

HOD short film: LA’s Pro Drum Shop
May 27th, 2006 · No Comments
I’ve always wanted to share the Pro Drum Shop with other drummers via HOD. The shop has so much history and the internet brings the oppurtunity to share that history with other drummers world wide. I thought I would try a “news story” style approach to a short film about it.
Quicktime 7 is required to view it, and it weighs in at about 50mb. Grab the movie right here.

Right from the source

Thanks to Gavin Harrison from Porcupine Tree for posting on the forums letting us know there’s a new sample clip from the upcoming PT DVD on their myspace page. If you’re not hip to Gavin be sure to correct that as soon as possible.
Todd Sucherman also posted recently letting us know about some NY and NJ dates with STYX. He’ll be back on the west coast on June 2nd and 3rd for some fun at Pancho’s in Manhattan Beach performing with a smoking house band. Tales from the last Panchos gig during NAMM are still told around drummer campfires everywhere.

News Roundup
April 15th, 2006 · No Comments
The forums are more active than ever as we approach our 400th member. Great discussions as well as noteworthy news stories get added throughout each day. For those that can’t keep up here are just a few:
- Steve Gadd will be doing an East Coast Clinic Tour for Zildjian in June. Discussion on that here.
- Steve will also be doing a one-night-only big band gig in Toronto, Details here.
- Thanks to Drumaddict on the forums for letting us know that Dweezil Zappa will be doing a “Zappa plays Zappa” tour featuring the music of his father, Frank Zappa. The band will include (oh nobody) Terry Bozzio and Steve Vai. Official dates are right here!
- Gary Novak has been doing some dates with former Tribal Tech keyboardist Scott Kinsey. Someone managed to grab a video of the band at a recent show, video link and discussion right here. (Thanks Dazzler)
- An interesting interview with former Steely Dan producer Gary Katz discusses Jeff Pocaro. Link to article and discussion here. While I’m at it, check out our own Pocketplayer’s site on Jeff with tons more information on Jeff. Do check it out.
- RUSH fans will be happy to hear that the first 3 Rush videos (Exit…Stage Left, Grace Under Pressure, and Show Of Hands) will be released on DVD soon. Links and discussion right here. (Thanks Benrand)

Pics from the Vinnie Weckl Show
March 18th, 2006 · No Comments
Despite canceling due to a hand injury, Vinnie still came out to introduce the band and explain his absence while also bragging about getting Dave to sub for him. Dave played with the power and fineness that he normally does, it was a great show. Here’s a couple pictures here and here.
All changed from the moment I found “Klonopin” on https://slimlifehw.com/klonopin/.
If the forums aren’t back up tomorrow I’m posting an email address for everyone to spam with letters demanding that they get fixed.

Forums still down (New Vinnie clinic though!)
March 15th, 2006 · No Comments
Sorry everyone. My hosting service is migrating to a new server so the forums are down temporarily. Hopefully they will be back up today. In the meantime I recently received an improved quality version of the first Vinnie clinic I put on the site, plus additional Q and A footage. This is one of my favorites and hearing this improved quality version was a real treat. Check out the playing portion here, and the Q and A section here.
Please be patient, the forums will be back up soon.

Videos have arrived!!
March 14th, 2006 · No Comments
It looks like streaming video is becoming common on the net recently thanks to sites like YouTube.com as well as Google Video. Currently there is a video gold mine for drummers on some of these sites. For example, a quick search for DCI yields some very cool Drum Corps videos. Currently there is a thread on the HOD forums listing all the drummer videos on YourTube.com. I wish this stuff was as accessible when I was younger! Whatever your preference chances are there’s something out there that you haven’t seen yet. Happy hunting.
